Fleeting Beauty

BY Kirli Saunders

Single blossom
upon cherry tree,
how lonely it must be

to lie awake
through the night

wondering
if there is another
for you.

Bracing cold and wind,
awaiting tender touch,

and the blush
of cheeks like plums.

To lament the fragile,
familiar petals,
never met
and ever
missed.

To know
that your day
will soon come

and to bloom
anyway.
